The value of tolerance in our society Tolerance is an important value in modern society. It allows us to accept and respect differences in others. It is difficult to overstate the value of having tolerance in our society. Being tolerant does not mean that we disregard what is wrong and agree with every opinion and action of another person. It does not imply that we blindly accept every persons motivations and reasoning. What it does mean is that we can live with, work with, and coexist with those who may be different from us without judgment or mutal animosity. For example, tolerance allows us to learn from peoples different perspectives and values, as well as allowing us to appreciate the similarities between us. It helps us to better understand our neighbors, coworkers, and others who may come from different backgrounds. This increased understanding aids in our ability to work together, form meaningful relationships, and create meaningful solutions to difficult problems. Tolerance also reinforces the principles of respect, responsibility, and cooperation. It promotes political stability by helping to manage disputes without violence. Tolerance also allows us to strengthen our relationships with other countries, increasing our understanding which often leads to a decrease in violence and fear. In conclusion, tolerance contributes positively to our society in numerous ways. It helps us to create a more harmonious environment and aids in our ability to effectively solve problems. Therefore, we should all strive to be more tolerant; it is the only way to foster and maintain a society in which everyone can understand, appreciate, and live with one another.
