Lighting is very important for our life. Whether in daytime or at night, lighting provides us with the most important thing we need - seeing the world around us. Lighting can come from the sun, or from artificial sources such as lamps and lights. Scientifically speaking, light is the natural energy that is emitted by a source. This energy travels in waves until it encounters something that absorbs it, such as our eyes. These small light waves can then be interpreted by our brain and we become able to ‘see. It's easy to underestimate the significance of appropriate lighting. It impacts us in subtle ways that often go unrecognised. We just want it to turn on when we flick the switch and forget about it until our bills come through. Good lighting can create a healthier, safer and more comfortable environment. Different tasks have different light quality needs. Low or bright, daylight or night, warm or cold, indoors or outdoors — such a wide variety of light is essential to our everyday life. Nonetheless, having access to quality lighting is not a given for many parts of the world. To make sure everyone can lead better, healthier lives, light must be made available and accessible to all. Without proper lighting, millions of people worldwide would remain in the dark.
